First Chapter of Breaking Dawn!!!! From EW!

Here's the link to a sneak peek at Chapter 1 from Stephenie Meyer's forth and final Twilight book Breaking Dawn.

Breaking Dawn - Chapter 1

My review:
I need to go back and read Eclipse! This first chapter was such a tease! I WANT MORE! Wow. It was great, everything I knew it would be and more.

Breaking Dawn will be released on August 2.

The first two chapters will be released with the Special Edition of Eclipse, May 31 (yes! that's tomorrow!).
I'll be headed to a local Borders to get my fill.

I totally want: Futura Entertainment Center

So I've had my eye on this piece of furniture for a few months now. I soooo really really want it. It's just so expensive!
But it's just gorgeous!

Right now we have our 42" plasma mounted directly on the wall. We then have a 4' tall media cabinet that holds our surround sound/DVD player, our satellite receiver, and our Xbox 360, misc. games and movies and of course the accessories for our Xbox and our Wii. Frankly, I just don't like it when I look at this elegant looking piece.

I'm hoping that it will eventually go on a major sale or clearance. Then maybe I can justify buying it. I'd buy it if the price was $400 or below. Right now it's at $589 and that just seems outrageous to me!

Eurway is a great place for beautiful, expensive (usually) furniture. I bought some chairs and tables from them for NBN's BEA booth this year....and alas, I will not be there to see how good they look. Hopefully they'll post some pictures.

Six Month Amazon Kindle Review

Received an excellent question from the Gena Showalter yahoo group!

Jess, how do you like the
Amazon Kindle? I was checking that out and would LOVE to get one -
someday! LOL
Felicia M. Ciaudelli

Felicia,
I LOVE my Kindle! To date I have purchased 60 books for the Kindle. I keep a spreadsheet to compare what I would have paid for the book physically versus what I paid for it for the Kindle (all Amazon.com prices). I did NOT factor in shipping, which is easily $3 per order. Anyhow, my savings to date (w/o shipping) is $127.84 and lord knows how many trees. :)

It's easy to take along, anywhere, without causing damage such as bent pages and it's fairly light versus Stephenie Meyer's 600+ page The Host.

Battery life is great, unless you connect the wireless like crazy. I usually charge every night because that's where the charge is plugged in, by the bed.

Of course everyone gripes about the cost. I paid $399 in December 2007. Just this week they dropped the price to $359! So another 90 books or so and it'll be paid for and I've had it for 5 months! So, a little more than a year and I'll be saving money!

The only thing I would adjust or hope they adjust in the next version is the layout of the "next" and "prev page" buttons. There needs to be more space for it to be manhandled. I've learned to lock it before I decide to move around a bunch, it's inevitable to hit one or more buttons while picking it up or laying it down. It's fairly easy to recover but it's still a pain and should be fixed.

Another great feature is that you can upload other documents to it. For example I'm now attending the remaining college courses for my AA degree and one of my classes has provided the text book via PDF, I can send the pdfs to be converted for free and then upload them myself to my Kindle. Or you have the option of them sending it wirelessly to the Kindle for $0.10 per attachment. Now I can read my text while watching my daughter play outside rather than being stuck inside at the laptop to read it.

Hope I didn't bore you! I'll be posting this review on my blog as well! Thanks for asking.
I totally give the Kindle a 10/10!

Stray (Werecats, Book 1) by Rachel Vincent

I've been meaning to read this book for a while now. And since the newest Kresley Cole book wasn't out on Kindle on time I went ahead and devoured this book.

It was very good. Again, it's nearly identical to Patricia Brigg's Mercy Thompson series. Faythe is a female werecat and her father, Greg, is the Alpha of the Southern territories. They live in Texas. She was in a rebel stage and managed to have her father agree for her to attend college for 5 years away from the pack. She's running from the pack, herself, and her first love and heartbreak, Marc, who is a stray that her father took under his wing.

Anyhow, she gets summoned back home because there's a stray going around kidnapping other female werecats. Female werecats are very limited and are looked upon as one of the most important piece to a pack. They are the ones that pass the family crown down. Whomever the female werecat marrys is who will be the next Alpha.

Her family demands that she return home so that they can protect her. She's not looking forward to being around Marc because she is upset to be near him emotionally but is effected by him much more sexually. There's definately a connection still there. One night after finding out that another female has been taken Faythe and Marc and a few others retire to the guest house for a few drinks. Faythe ends up drunk, sleeps with Marc, and then decides to take a stroll down to the barn, which was a very bad idea. She finds herself being taken just like the other female werecats.

I won't say anymore about the storyline except that it is totally kickass. Faythe is a strong willed female and I totally look up to her. She knows who she is and is willing to do just about anything to make sure everyone else knows it too.

I'm already reading the second book of this series Rogue, which seems like it's going to be just as good. Love when there's a mystery tied in with the sexual tension of raging hormones.

9/10!

Upcoming Reads

Here's a brief glimpse at some books I hope to read in the very near future!

Dark Desires After Dusk (The Immortals After Dark, Book 5)Stray (Werecats, Book 1)Wild RainGarden SpellsEvernightLover Enshrined (Black Dagger Brotherhood, Book 6)Cry Wolf (Anna and Charles, Book 1)Breaking Dawn (The Twilight Saga, Book 4)

I can honestly say I'm looking most forward to Breaking Dawn by Stephenie Meyer. I cannot wait to see how she ends the Bella and Edward tale. I'm really hoping she doesn't stop writing about the Cullen's and Bella. It's such an amazing character line up that they almost seem like family. Oh, and Edward is hot. She could even make a spin off for all the Jacob lovers. It would be great to find out who he imprints on, unless Meyer touches on that in the final book.

Garden Spells is probably the only book up there that doesn't fit as my usual type of book, however, it seems so intriguing. I lovedthe Secret Garden and I'm thinking it'll be something like that, but maybe even better! If someone has read it I'd love to hear what they have to say about it.

Wild Rain is a book I picked up and looked at while browsing Wal-Mart yesterday. Again, I'm loving shape shifter books so I'm sure this will be a pleasant read.

The only thing to burden my reading time is that I'm starting my college courses up again this coming week. Bummer! But I've been putting off finishing my Assosciates degree for too long now. What better time to do it then while unemployed? Yup.

Where's the Kindle Edition?

It's two days past due!
Dark Desires After Dusk, Kresley Cole's fifth installment to her The Immortals After Dark series has not been released on the Kindle yet!?!?!
I'm so upset! The previous book was out on time so I'm highly upset about this.

I'm tiding myself over with a new author for me, Laurell K. Hamilton. A Kiss of Shadows is about the fey. So far so good.
I'm finding myself in wolf withdrawal though. I really like shape shifter books!

I hope they get it out soon!

Bitten (Women of the Otherworld, Book 1) by Kelley Armstrong

This was a great book! Very similar to Patricia Briggs's Mercy Thompson series.
Elena is a werewolf. The ONLY female werewolf. She was bitten by Clayton who she fell in love with years ago. She didn't take to kindly to being bitten and turned.
She rebelled against the change forcing Jeremy, the Pack Alpha, to cage her in his basement.
She lived there for a while, then decided to leave to pursue a life as human as possible. There she meet Phillip. He was a perfect gentleman, patient and caring, and always giving flowers.
Then the Pack called Elena in for help with some "mutts", rogue werewolves, who were killing humans and leaving them on Pack territory causing the humans to investigate to close to home.
Elena is good with humans, therefore, the Pack knows she can handle mutts because they rely on their human instincts rather than their wolf instincts.
The plot is very crazy. Several Pack members end up dead due to theses rebellious mutts who each have their own agenda. One wants territory, one wants Elena dead, and one wants Elena to make wolf babies with. Elena just wants to be left alone but is willing to do what it takes to protect herself and ultimately protect Clay, whom she is totally 100% in love with but can't admit it to herself.

I'm so looking forward to the next book, which seems to incorporate witches some how, which should be pretty cool.

The Host by Stephenie Meyers

I really gave this book a try! But I found it to be SOOOO boring! I had to stop reading. There was just so much detail and not enough of a direct story line that I found myself lacking a good plot. I'm sure it must get better eventually but I'll have to find out at a later date.

I'm so disappointed too! I loved Stephenie's Twilight series so much!

Dark Needs at Night's Edge (The Immortals After Dark Series, Book 4) by Kresley Cole

Man, another amazing book! This is probably my favorite Kresley Cole book ever.

Conrad Wroth, red-eyed vampire brother of Nikolai, Sebastian, Murdoch, has been caged by his brothers inside a haunted estate. The haunt is a lovely ghost of ballarina Neomi Laress, a famous ballerina from the past, who upon being stabbed in the heart by an ex-fiance became a spirit and her home the spirit anchor forced to live as a spirit unable to leave the estate ground.

Conrad can she and hear Neomi but since he's a red eye he hallucinates a lot and he brushes her off as such. However, he finds her beautiful and therefore knows it MUST be a hallucination.

His brothers keep him chained up in a room on a bed. Neomi finds herself unable to leave him. A few days later he's sane enough to take a shower and Neomi accompanies him to the bathroom. Seeing him naked and knowing that he can see and hear her she pursues with a strip tease, out of direct line of site from Conrad so if he wants to see her naked he has to move and acknowledge that he can hear and see her. He does. And he loves the way she looks. She joins him in the shower. They want to touch each other but she's a ghost so all they feel is electrical charges as they pass through each other.

After that day they continue to talk and get to know each other. They end up having a fight about something or another, oh, he wants her to steal the key to his cuffs, he can't wait for her to do it so he axes off one of his hands on the evening right before Neomi decided to give him the key. They both end up angry at each other. Conrad traces to his home, leaving Neomi plotting how to become human. She envokes help from Mariketa the Valkerie. It works, she goes to a party that Conrad is at, and he bloods her (his heart starts to beat again).

And they live happliy ever after, and by after I mean a whole lot of crazy stuff. All in all it was an amazing book! Love that Neomi was a ghost and I absolutely loved watching Conrad change from a deranged killer to a protecting man. Finding and blooding his Bride gave him another shot at life and with him he has a big family to help support him.

Can't wait for the next book by Kresley Dark Desires After Dusk (The Immortals After Dark, Book 5) which releases in just 5 days!

One Foot in the Grave (Night Huntress, Book 2) by Jeaniene Frost

What an awesome series! Love this series!
So, Cat is continuing her life now as a FBI Special Agent who heads up a team of human male soldiers bent to rid the world of evil vampires or paranormal baddies. She decided to start dating again after 4 years of being away from Bones. So in comes Noah, a geeky veterinarian that she won't let him go past first base with.

Then all of a sudden someone leaves a bloody calling card for Cat, "here kitty kitty" and she's on the run to find out who's stalking her. During all of this her best friend Denise is spontaneously getting married. Cat is the maid of honor and upon walking down the aisle seeings no other than Bones as the best man. HOLY SH!T! She nearly flees the scene but remembers that this is all for Denise and she continues on. Too funny.

They end up becoming a team because Bones knows that someone is after her and he refuses to sit by and allow danger to stalk Cat. Cat is forced to train her team to learn how to catch vampires rather than kill them to offer as leverage against a vampire that wants her as a trophy, has stolen Noah, and is the holder of her father Max, whom she desperately wants to turn to ash. There's a big display of who has power or authority over whom, at the end Bones decides to take Cat has his blood wife and she does it in return, claiming her as his in a very public manner, therefore, requiring the badass vampire to back off.

So, Cat ends up back with her love, kicks some vampire ass, OH! and gets Dave back from the dead! He's now a ghoul like Randy. The only thing she doesn't get is Max's head. Guess that'll come in the next book! Can't wait!

I foresee a nap coming soon.

I've applied for few jobs today. Man it sucks looking for work! Is there such a job that I could get paid to read novels? If so, someone please enlighten me!

Periscope Book Light

Now if I didn't read a Kindle I would be buying one of these!
How cool is that? I have a clip light that I attach to my Kindle every night to read in bed.
However, I just finished The Darkest Night by Gena Showalter and it was a traditional paperback and I would have preferred a product like this!

For $35-$39 it isn't a bad investment.

The Darkest Night (Lords of the Underworld, Book 1) by Gena Showalter

Congrats to Gena for making the NY Bestsellers List at # 11 in her first week!
I had been putting off reading this book for a while now. Gena was so nice to even post the first three chapters but I couldn't bring myself to read them knowing that I would be highly disappointed that I wouldn't be able to finish the story! Well, I'm glad I did that.

This was a very good book! I'd have to say it wasn't my favorite Gena book though. However, with it being the first book of the series which required a brief introduction to all the demons in the story it was good. It had a great cast. I'm loving the demons. I'm looking forward to reading about the rest of them.

This book centers around Maddox the demon of Violence. He is cursed because he was the one to slay Pandora trying to prove that he should have been the one to guard the box that held the demons. His punishment in addition to housing Violence he must be slain each night in the same fashion that he killed Pandora. One night Ashlyn, who has her own unique curse of being able to hear the conversations of the past where ever she stands, ventures to the estate that the demons live in. Maddox, nearly upon his death bed for the evening, ventures out to slay the men following her and to find out who or what she is. She's quit to figure out that Maddox is the cure to the voices in her head. When he's around all is silent.

Maddox is forced by some inner thing to take her with him back to the castle. She witnesses and tries to save him from being slain that evening. Which evolves into a full blown love story between Maddox and Ashlyn. It's a very charming story.

Iron Kissed (Mercy Thompson, Book 3) by Patricia Briggs

I'm so sad that this is the last book available on the Mercy Thompson series! :*(
But it was SOOOO good!
This time Mercy is fighting the fae! Her mentor Zee has been arrested for the murder of a human, O'Donnell. The fae Gray Lord's are willing to allow Zee to go down with the fault because they don't want humans inside their reservation to investigate the fae murders that have been going down. The love triangle continue between Samuel, Adam, and Mercy. But as I expected some of them came to their senses and Mercy has made her choice of who she will mate with. However, there's sooo much action/drama in this book that she is unable to make any advances toward her mate. Until the very LAST sentence of the book does that happen! ARGH! Patricia is a meany author that teases her readers.

I'm so sad that I don't know when the next book will be available. I've looked at the author's website but there isn't any mention of a release date.

I have plenty of books to read before then any how. I started Gena's new series last evening The Darkest Night.

10/10!

Blood Bound (Mercy Thompson Series, Book 2) by Patricia Briggs

All I have to say is Patricia Briggs is right up there with Gena Showalter for being one of my favorite authors. This second book was just as good if not better than the first book.

It pretty much continues what was happening within the first book. Mercy ends up falling into a mystery concerning the vampires and a demon possessed vampire bent on killing and sending out a radar of violence inducing stimuli. And of course Mercy is the perfect person to be rid of the demon vampire. With the help of Stefan and continued help from Samuel and Adam, and Adam's pack, she takes on the beast.

And OF COURSE it ends with a cliffhanger! Both Samuel and Adam are still pursuing her to be their mates. I feel for both of them but I'm hopeful that she'll make her choice in the next book.
