Twilight: Meet the "Wolf Pack"

Twilight Lexicon has a nice interview of the actors who play Sam, Embry, and Jacob in the upcoming Twilight movie due out Dec. 12. The actors look pretty impressive. I'm thrilled with the Sam choice, however, I did picture him a bit more beefed, but his choice is very good because he has the look of a mature, young male. He seems very ready for his role.

Wake by Lisa McMann

I read a few reviews about this book a while back. I put it on my TBR list and decided to read it yesterday after finishing Lover Enshrined.

I'm really glad I did.
It was a perfect book.

Brief summary:
Janie gets sucked into anyone's dream if they are sleeping and dreaming in the same room as she is. She's safe if she's behind a closed door. She caught her first dream at a young age of 8, I believe. Her mother is an alcoholic and she doesn't know her father. She has a good friend next door, Carrie. Janie learns that her younger brother drowned and Carrie holds herself responsible. She is known as the poor girl at school. She's not friends with the "north" side girls. Although Carrie is friends with one.

Janie works at a nursing home because they don't usually sleep very well. She became good friends with one particular resident. She ends up playing a vital role in Janie's life as a dream catcher.

Janie also becomes friends with Cabel who's a struggling teenage boy trying to find himself. The story follows them over a few years. First Cabel helps Janie home after a homecoming dance by pushing her home on his skateboard. Then she gives him a ride to school on the first day of senior year. She notices that he's changed a lot. He's clean, wearing glasses, and looking really good.

They end up starting a relationship. Nothing extreme just basic boy girl friendship with a beginning of caring for each other. Until their senior trip, when Janie gets bombarded with dreams on the bus ride. Cabel stays with her, makes sure no one freaks out because she is spasming. After that trip they are forced to tell each other a bunch of personal things to each other.

They end up fighting, Cabel has a weird secretive job, which she thinks is selling/pushing drugs. Everything eventually gets handled and explained.

It was an AMAZING book. Very original and very awesome. I liked the style of writing. It wasn't all drawn out. It was brief and to the point but NOT lacking was so ever. I've heard that there will be a sequel to this book. It would be pretty awesome to find out what happens next. Looks like college would be the next option for Janie and Cabel.

10/10!

Lover Enshrined (Black Dagger Brotherhood, Book 6) by J.R. Ward

Man, I began this series not too long ago and hated that I ran out of available books to read!

I was sooo excited when this released!

This is Phury's book. Phury took the task of Primale from Vichous in the last book. He now has to overcome his need for drugs and to make everyone happy. The book is pretty packed with lots of action. There's sooo much going on that I'm actually finding it hard to pick which topic to start with.

The Lesser Society is hitting hard! They've infiltrated the Brotherhood in the most awesome way. But it totally sucks for the Brothers.

John Matthew is by far one of my favorite characters. He struggles so much but he overcomes so much as well. I love his story and I really can't wait to read his book.

Zsadist and Bella struggle to have a healthy pregnancy.

Rehvenge is being a sex slave for the Princess Sympath. Oh, and kicking some Lesser ass, which was totally cool.

Phury and Cormia stuggle sooo much to have any relationship what so ever. It was actually really sad to read about them. There was soo many differences between these two and add the pressure of the Primale and the Chosen on them and it just means that they were doomed from the beginning. They end up working together to find a resolve that works for them both. It's beautiful and amazing and I'm actually sooo happy for them.

Oh, and Tohrment is back, barely, but he's back.

I'm soo looking forward to more!

The next book is LOVER AVENGED and it's about Rehvenge.
Here's a piece I found of an interview with Romance Novel TV and J.R. Ward:

J.R. Ward: Rehvenge’s LOVER AVENGED is up next! He’s a handful let me tell you and his romance is full of surprises and OMG moments… I’m just starting the drafting process now and I have a feeling he’s going to blow the doors off his binding so to speak. But honestly, would you expect anything else?
Let’s see… I’ll give you the first line how about that?
“The king must die.”

Also, there's an Insider's Guide being released on October 7, 2008: The Black Dagger Brotherhood: An Insider's Guide

Evernight by Claudia Gray

I broke down and purchased the hardback of this book.
I was waiting for ever to see if it would come available for the Kindle, but, alas, it has not. I even contacted the author and she said she'd look into it!

I got right into this book. It was pretty good up until it just assumed that the reader should have known that the main character's, Bianca Olivier, parents are vampires. The transition was very rough and I was highly confused. Therefore, I lied to myself and said "Of course I knew they were vampires....."

Other than that mishap the book was very good.

Bianca is nearly 17 years old. Her parents have told her that they are vampires all her life (huh? see above note) and that she is a "natural" born vampire, meaning she was born after both her parents were transformed. It's the first day of school in the beginning of the book. The school is Evernight Academy and her parents are now teachers there. Bianca decides to leave early that first morning to make it look like she is running away to force her parents to let her go back to her home town. A few feet into the woods and Bianca feels like she's being followed, she turns around to see a shadowed man following her, she begins to run, and the man pursues her, tackles her, and then asks her "Is someone following you?"....yeah, it's too funny. That's how she meets Lucas.

The school atmposphere is a typical high school with the added weirdness to the situation because of the vampires and the noticable humans that were allowed to be enrolled this year.

I'd explain the rest but it would give away too much of the story line.
I plan to read the next book Stargazer which will be released March 24, 2009.

Overall, I give this book:
8/10

The Darkest Kiss (Lords of the Underworld, Book 2) by Gena Showalter

Loved this book!
The first book The Darkest Night was the beginning of this new series as was not as good as this one IMO. This book centered around Anya, Goddess of Anarchy, who was introduced to us in the first book because she helped the Lords with their issue of Maddox's need of being killed each evening. I've now learned that choice to help was probably more self centered than they knew. Anya has an attraction for Lucien, Lord of Death. He has the responsibility of escorting select souls to the gates of heaven or hell.

Anya attends an event and dances with Lucien. It all starts there! They have a love-hate relationship. Each of them telling false feelings to each other. Why? Because Lucien is scarred and can't believe any female would be even slightly attracted to him. Anya is cursed. She cannot engage in intercourse unless she wishes to be forever attached to the male that she allows to enter her.

They join forces to search for the artifacts that the Titan king, Cronus, wishes for the Lords to find. Cronus wants a special key that Anya holds and orders Lucien to kill her. It's a pretty detailed story.

Love Anya's personality. She's perky and doesn't take crap from anyone, even Cronus!
Looking forward to Reyes story coming out in July!

Proud Parents of 11.......

11 baby cichlids that is!

I just noticed two nights ago that one of our cichilds was carrying something in her mouth. I did a little research and figured it was eggs.
I decided the next day to buy her a separate tank to reduce stress and to ensure that the babies were not eaten if she released them soon. I figured we had at least a week or two before she was ready to let them out of her mouth.....but I was SO wrong!

She released them tonight! We have 11 little tiny baby fishes! I'm attaching pictures but they didn't turn out so great. You can see the darker ones easier but there are a bunch of light colored ones you can hardly make out due to the gravel being so light too.

Enjoy the pics and I'll be sure to update again soon!

Rogue (Werecats, Book 2) by Rachel Vincent

This is the second book in Rachel Vincent's werecat series. It was a continuum from Stray.
Faythe is in training to become an enforcer, like her werecat boyfriend Marc. The plot centers around a series of tomcat murders all centering around strip clubs and missing strippers, who just happen to resemble Faythe's appearance.

Faythe and Marc work together to figure out who is murdering the tom cats and who is kidnapping the strippers. They figure out that the toms are being murdered by a foreign tabby.

Faythe also starts getting weird calls from her ex-human-boyfriend Andrew. He's not acting the same. Faythe soon figures out that he has been turned stray. And she was the one to do it! Marc doesn't take this news very good at all......he prepossess to Faythe, she declines, and he breaks up with her. It's totally too sad and I can't believe how immature Faythe is about committing to Marc. I know she's scared she'll end up like her mother but she has got to get over it already! Per Rachel's website "Pride will hit the
shelves in March 2009" and that's a long ways away!
