Dark Desires After Dusk (The Immortals After Dark, Book 5) by Kresley Cole

Started this yesterday and finished it yesterday!
LOVE KRESLEY COLE!!!!

OMG, this was an amazing book! It was non stop action. I love me some action!

Summary per Amazon.com:

A seductive beauty he can
never have, yet can't resist...

Cadeon Woede will stop at nothing to atone for the one wrong that will haunt him forever. But once he secures the key to his redemption, the halfling Holly Ashwin, Cade finds that the woman he thought he could use for his own ends and then forget haunts him as much as his past.

A tormented warrior she should fear, but can't deny...

Raised as a human, Holly never knew that some frightening legends are real until she encounters a brutal demon who inexplicably guards her like a treasure. Thrust into a sensual new world of myth and power, with him as her protector, she begins to crave the demon's wicked touch.

Surrender to dark desires...

Yet just when he earns Holly's trust, will Cade be forced to betray the only woman who can sate his wildest needs -- and claim his heart?

Again, nothing but action. Holly is an honest women most women can relate to. Cadeon is a egotistical male demon too handsome to hate. He truly does a 180 in personality all for the better.

15/10!

The City of Ember (The First Book of Ember) by Jeanne DuPrau

I decided to read this book because I saw a trailer about the book becoming a movie.

The book was amazing. It took a while to actually figure out that the city was underground and cut off from the rest of the world. The book seems like it might be a bit better than the upcoming movie.

Summary (spoilers!):

Lina and Doon are friends that just turned 12, which means they are off to work now. Lina trades professions with Doon so he can be a Pipeworker and she can be a Messenger. The city is completely dark, lit only by light bulbs that are powered by the generator that is powered by the river that runs under the City of Ember. Lina finds a note with instructions for finding the way out of Ember. The instructions were to be in the hands of the mayor but due to a sudden death of a mayor the instructions were left at the house that Lina lives in. She works with a few others, including Doon, to figure out what the letter says. There are parts missing because Lina's little sister, Poppy, was in the process of eating the document before Lina took it from her.

Lina and Doon work very well together. They end up finding the "egress" and flee Ember with Poppy and a warrent on them. They exit from underground during the night. The next day they look for another entrance into Ember because they forgot to leave the note they wrote so that someone would be able to tell the others of Ember so they too can join them. That's where the book ends, a friend of Lina's picks up the sack they threw down to Ember.

My thoughts:

Now I must get the next book to find out what happens! It was so well written. It reminded me of a Lois Lowry book. The movie will be good and entertaining. I hope others get to read the book as well.

The Darkest Pleasure (Lords of the Underworld, Book 3) by Gena Showalter

Another amazing book by the lovely Gena Showalter.

Loved this book. Reyes quest to obtain Danika was unlike the other Lord's adventure to acquire their loves.

Danika's spunk and ability to take it all in helped with Reyes overcoming his issues with having Danika as a lover. With his demon of Pain he was afraid of corrupting her into hurting herself or others around her as he had experience with in the past with other women.

Danika proves to be more than just Reyes other half. She's one of the artifacts that the Gods, the Lords, and the Hunters are searching for.

Cannot wait for the next book, which is The Darkest Whisper (Sabin's story) due to release May 2009. Sabin's story?!!?!? I want Paris's story. It's touched on so many times in this book I was really hoping to find out how Paris's story gets resolved!

Kitty and the Midnight Hour (Kitty Norville Series, Book 1) by Carrie Vaughn

Another great werewolf book! Again, I like shape shifting books lots.

This one centers around Kitty Norville. A few years back she was attacked by a werewolf and is now a werewolf who D.J.s at night. She decided to start asking paranormal questions of her listeners, which sort of branched right into "The Midnight Hour" a talk show for paranormal Q&A.

After agreeing to host the show national wide Kitty starts to get negative feedback from her pack alpha, Carl and his mate Meg. Kitty's best friend and second in command, T.J., is also giving her some crap about it.

Not only are her pack mates upset but one night she gets a call from an assassin who has just told her that he is in the lobby on his way up to shoot her. Kitty manages to hold a very interesting conversation with Cormac the killer, finds out that the contract on her head requires that the kill be on the show. Kitty explains to Cormac that she really hasn't done anything wrong hosting the show, and that his normal contracts are usually for rogue wolves and vampires, he agrees. They hear the cop sirens and agree to put off the killing until Cormac can be given justified evidence for her assassination. What a sweet guy!

There's a little sexual tension going on between Kitty and Cormac. And what a name huh?! Cormac, I just love it. Cormac and Kitty end up working together to solve the mystery of why someone would want Kitty killed. The answer is pretty crappy and I'm excited to see what the second book Kitty Goes to Washington (Kitty Norville Series, Book 2) holds in store for the story.

Looking for Alaska by John Green

This is another book I saw at Borders and the cover sucked me right in. I was grateful that it was available for the Kindle.

16 year old Miles Halter is seeking "the Great Perhaps" and in doing so he has decided to attend a private boarding school that his father attended as well. Culver Creek boarding school is located in Alabama and Miles lived in Florida.

When he arrives he moves his stuff in, decides it's way too hot, takes a shower, and then walks out in a towel to meet his roommate Chip aka "Colonel". Colonel decides it's time for a cigarette so they go meet Alaska, a pretty girl with a room full of books. This grabs Miles' attention right away because he's a last words kind of guy.

So these three become great friends. They do homework together, drink alcohol, smoke cigarettes, get caught smoking, etc.

All of a sudden one night Alaska gets a phone call, runs into her room where Miles and Colonel have fallen asleep, and shouts for them to help her get out of here. She's shitfaced drunk, they say they'll help by distracting the Dean of the school with firecrackers. After which they return to their room to continue sleeping. Early the next morning the Dean comes to their room to ask them to come to the gym. In the gym the Dean tells the school students and staff that Alaska has passed away in a horrible car accident.

This floors Miles because that night Alaska dared him to "hook up with her", so they kissed, she said "To be continued?" and it doesn't help that he's been in love with her for a while now.

This gets Miles, Colonel, and their other friend Takaumi to help them figure out just what happened to Alaska. Why did she die? How did she die? There was something deeper going on and they were going to figure it out.

An amazing book. Loved it. It was sort of like the "13 Reasons Why" book. It had such meaning and depth to it it was amazing. It wasn't depressing as much as it was enlightening.

Frozen Fire by Tim Bowler

I picked this up at on a trip to Borders, where I read the first two chapters of Breaking Dawn, coming out in less than a month now!

Anyhow, the cover intrigued me. I'm glad I bought it but after reading it I felt empty an wondering what the heck.

The story starts with Dusty spending the evening at home alone because her dad is out on a date. Her mother doesn't live with them any more since her older brother Josh up and disappeared.

Suddenly she receives a phone call from a boy who says "I'm dying". He's apparently overdosed and laying somewhere waiting to die.

I honestly can't say any more about the plot than that. The entire book revolves around this strange, unreachable boy who wants to die. Dusty feels obligated to help because of her missing brother Josh.

This book really makes you think. It also keeps you on the seat of your chair wondering when this person will be found out. The book was wonderfully written.

P.S. - It reminded me of the movie Powder. It's so similar to that movie I'm not even lying.

Stolen (Women of the Otherworld, Book 2) by Kelley Armstrong

This was the second book in Kelley's Women of the Otherworld series and the title says it all.

Elena, the only female werewolf, was kidnapped and taken to a high security base where other supernatural beings were being held captive. Other than Elena there were witches, a telekinetic half demon, a sorcerer, and a human chameleon.

Elena must find a way out. The man running the scene is Ty Winsloe, who is loaded and doesn't care how much money he has to spend to have a good time, like hunting werewolves.

It's a pretty crazy book. Just as good at the first book but I'm not having any luck getting into the third book, which centers around the witches we met in this book. I'm want to read about Elena and Clay not the witches. I didn't like the witches honestly.

Good book though.

Oh, and I had to buy this book. It wasn't available on the Kindle.
