Roswell!

I LOVE this series! It's old, from 1999, but it's awesome! It has Katherine Heigl from Grey's Anatomy in it. And it's sooooo much like Twilight it's not even funny! The premise is the same any way and it's great, if not even better than Twilight. They totally should have made Twilight a series and not a motion picture. More money from a movie I guess.

Roswell
Left to Right above: Isabel Evans (Katherine Heigl), Max Evans (Jason Behr), Liz Parker (Shiri Appleby), and Michael Guerin (Brenden Fehr)

Max (Edward) is an alien. He outs himself as one to save Liz's (Bella) life after she is shot in the chest at the Crash Down diner. They create a bond instantly. Everyone is suspicious but they manage to cover it up only by the hair of their chiny chin chins. Max has a sister, Isabel, played by Katherine Heigl, and a best friend, Michael.

I've watched all 22 issues of season 1 for free on Hulu.com. I've added season 2 to my queue on Blockbuster.com and can't wait to get them in the mail. Hubby needs to watch some and return his!

I highly recommend watching this series but if you like it by the 4th or 5th episode I'd recommend getting season 2 lined up some way or form, cause you will want to watch more by the time you get to the last episode of season 1. There are only 3 seasons of this show. I really hope it ends well and not leaving me feeling lacking. That would be a bummer.

Have you already watched this series? What did you think? Can you compare it to Twilight?

And so....

The job is going very well. I worked yesterday, Saturday, for 8 hours. They are so far behind in their invoicing it's crazy.

Here's Madison's yearly school picture we get taken every year. I took her in that day just for the picture, so I got to watch it all go down. The kids are too funny. Madison knew exactly what to do. She was dear.

Finally!

I finally found a full-time, decent paying job!

I'll be an Administrative Assistant in the office of an underground drilling company called Precision Underground. They are located just down town a short 5 minute drive away. My hours will be 8:00 am - 4:30 pm, which is cool.

The main objective will be catching them up with their invoicing. They are way behind because they have been super busy with their contract with Verizon. The new FIOS thing they have going is really taking off.

I start tomorrow so I'm headed to bed now!

Natural Harvest: A collection of semen-based recipes by Fotie Photenhauer

OMG. I saw this posted on Geekologie and I'm just amazed. You should really see what the poster had to say. Those people are just amazing and always make me laugh.

Semen is not only nutritious, but it also has a wonderful texture and
amazing cooking properties. Like fine wine and cheeses, the taste of
semen is complex and dynamic. Semen is inexpensive to produce and is
commonly available in many, if not most, homes and restaurants. Despite all of these positive qualities, semen remains neglected as a food.
This book hopes to change that. Once you overcome any initial
hesitation, you will be surprised to learn how wonderful semen is in
the kitchen. Semen is an exciting ingredient that can give every dish
you make an interesting twist. If you are a passionate cook and are not
afraid to experiment with new ingredients - you will love this cook
book!

gross.jpgNatural Harvest: A collection of semen-based recipes is 61 pages, 9" x 7", perfect binding, full-color interior ink. It'll cost you $24.95

Please note that I will NOT be reviewing this cookbook. Ever.

Lost It by Kristen Tracy

So, I decided to switch it up and read a YA novel about teen sexuality and teen first love. It was always a interesting topic to read about. A favorite would be the tearful The Lovely Bones. The teen love story in that book touched me deeply.

This book? Not so much.

Lost ItTess Whistle begins her sophomore year of high school clobbering the owner of the locker below hers with her book bag contents and a can of apple juice. Benjamin Easter is a sweetheart and instantly apologizes for being in her way. He picks up the apple juice with a question of why apple juice? And Tess answers by stating that she's diabetic which is why she was so clumsy with her stuff. He immediately is concerned for her but she doesn't engage much.

Tess also has a weird best friend, Zena, who is stuck on building a bomb to blow up a poodle. The story behind this is very weird and I believe this is the major reason for the writing of this book.

Tess's parents are a complete mess. They are "born again" but her mother decides to leave for 6 weeks on a find yourself camping/hiking trip to Utah. This leaves Tess's dad not so much as her dad. Tess has begun a friendship with Ben and she calls him for comfort. He comes over to pick her up. That's the beginning of their relationship.

Lots and lots of emotional stuff goes down in this book. Ultimately Tess learns to live while you can but it backfires like I've never seen before.

I'm a major fan of happy endings, even if they aren't that happy, but this book just blew in that department. I guess Tess and Zena came out emotionally stronger but what's that worth to me? Nothing. The book was written in a retelling way by Tess. The beginning told you exactly what ends up happening but I didn't want to believe it and so I read on. I really wish I hadn't.

If You Dare (The MacCarrick Brothers, Book 1) by Kresley Cole

I really enjoyed Kresley Cole's other series and decided to give this series a go.
If You Dare
Annalia is the main character of this novel. Her story is a bit complicated but let me just describe her as a single woman of high social status. She is living in her very nice home atop a mountaintop with her limited staff. Her brother is her only family. She has other family in Spain but she will only go to them if in dire need.

Her brother, Aleix, is out fighting Pascal, who is the bad ass villian of the book. Pascal has imprisioned Aleix, and is requiring Annalia to wed him in exchange for her brother's life.

Before finding out about the marrige request, Annalia finds Courtland MacCarrick passed out on the river bank below her home. She and her horse pull him to her home and with the help of a few kids and her helper Vitale, carry Court to an upstairs room that locks. Annalia nurses his wounds and is clumsy geting his clothing removed. She makes Vitale bathe him. Basically, she seems very prudish. However, one day that she is wetting him down because it's so hot, she drips water over the sheet covering his privates, which causes the fabric to press down and make it very apparent of what lies beneath. Right at that time Courtland wakes up to ask her "Do you like what you see?"

The biggest conflict of the book is that Courtland is a Scottish mercanary, which Annalia labels him as a brute and a killer. He talks with a perfect accent too.

He finds Annalia very interesting. He enjoys ruffling her. She doesn't reveal much personal information so he has to ask Vitale about her and to even get her to come back to his room to talk to him. He ends up picking the locked door she keeps him in and roaming around her house. He finds her one evening in the study crying after reading the letter about her pending marriage to Pascal and asks her what is wrong. Of course she doesn't tell him but he does get her to have a couple of whiskeys and even a kiss out of her. His men decide to show up at exactly that moment.

The next morning she asks him and his men to help her retreive her brother from Pascal. Court has done nothing but make her life hell. She picks on him and he picks on her.

I feel like I'm telling the whole story so I'm going to stop with that. He does agree to help her but she gets so fed up with him that she ends up leaving that morning for Pascals without him and his men. The remaining of the story is fast paced and action filled.

The tone and the story are very well written. I was able to relate to both characters. I love that Kresley wrote Court's accent into the dialogue. There's nothing worse than having to adjust the text to an accent. I prefer reading misspelled text that is true to the accent than reading the correct spelling but then reading "he said with a french accent." There's a whole thing about the MacCarrick brothers being cursed in this story but I didn't dwell on that much. It's hardly brought up and when it is it's not that much to think about. It's almost not even needed really.

9/10!

Witch Blood (Elemental Witches, Book 2) by Anya Bast

Another great story!
Witch Blood
This story is different than the first. It centers on the leader of the Coven, Thomas Monahan, and a water witch, Isabelle Novak, out to get revenge for the death of her sister by a demon that was summoned over 25 years ago by William Crane the former leader of Duskoff International.

Isabelle Novak disguises herself to get close to the new leader of Duskoff International, Stefan, William Crane's adopted, fire witch son. Although he's not directly responsible for Angela's death, Isabelle decides that he is the best alternative since she can't capture the demon responsible. Usually the demons come to Earth, do the bidding of the Duskoff warlocks and then go back to where they come from but not this one. Why?

Isabelle gets Stefan by the balls, literally!, but is ambushed by the Coven before she could attack on taking Stefan's life, even though she already accepted that she was unable to actually kill him, but she manages to mangle his precious manhood.

Thomas Monahan is at the scene and asks her to come on board to help with the investigation of the demon and the questioning of Stefan. Thomas Monahan is the powerful leader of the Coven and is also a very strong earth witch. Yes, earth and water are natural attractants.

Thomas and Isabelle are immediately attracted to each other and don't waste any time in expressing themselves. Isabelle does it as a reason to take her mind off of the reality of her life. Her sisters death, her worthless mother, and her inability to hold on to any thing good.

She and Thomas work well together and their adventure to finding out what the demon is up to and to stop it from killing witches is the task at hand. Will they save the lives of the innocent witches by sacrificing what they have or don't have?

Again, this author, Anya Bast, has got the tone and the skill of writing this fantasy book down like a pro! This book not only hooked me to the characters of Thomas and Isabelle but she also wrote about a whole other species and their dimension that they come from. I'm excited to find out that there's a third book coming out in January!

Witch Fire (Elemental Witches, Book 1) by Anya Bast

I don't remember why I stumbled upon this series but I'm so glad I did!

Witch Fire

Witch Fire (Elemental Witches, Book 1)

The first of the Elemental Witch series by Anya Bast stars a young woman, Mira Hoskins, who was recently divorced, living in an efficiency apartment, and working at a local diner as a waitress saving money to return to college.

One day at the diner a very darkly sexy man sits in her section for hours only ordering a cup of coffee. His name is Jack McAllister and he's a very powerful fire witch sent to guard her from the evil witches known as Duskoff International.

Why? Because she's a very rare, untrained, and wanted air witch with a past she has no idea about. And guess what? Fire and air are natural attractants.

This book was great! The attraction between Jack and Mira was tangible and 100% sincere. They have a lot to discover about each other and not all is good. The writing is great. Everything flowed well together and everything made sense. I was thoroughly entertained.

Gorgeous Cover of an upcoming New Release by Lisa Mantchev

I subscribed to Fangs, Fur, & Fey's blog. There was a post made by Lisa Mantchev of her upcoming, September 2009!, release of her first novel, Eyes Like Stars.

Isn't it just beautiful?

It's a trilogy "about
seventeen-year-old Beatrice Shakespeare Smith and her adventures in a
theater where all the characters from all the plays ever written
actually exist. There are Shakespearean fairies as well as a
temperamental air spirit, a dashing pirate, members of Management, a
mysterious Proprietor and general silliness and mayhem." Quoted from Fangs, Fur, & Fey

I've put it on my "To Be Read" list and asked Amazon.com to send me an email of when it's available.

I hope they don't change the cover....it's just perfect!

Walk on the Wild Side by Christine Warren

So, yeah, I love shape shifter books!
I was thinking about this today and thinking, then why do I love Edward over Jacob? My conclusion was that I like men shape shifters, not boys. And since Edward is technically over 100 years old he's basically a man. That's my analysis.

So, Christine Warren wrote a very lovely story. It's sad and romantic and full of action.

Kitty is in a car accident with her mother. She escapes on four legs instead of two. She's 24 years old and just found out she's an "other". Her mother lied to her about her father dying in a car accident on prom night. She's found out he's alive and he contacts her with information so she can come meet him. She was also raised by her grandparents.

She flies out to Vegas to meet her father. When she arrives at the airport she heads right to the bathroom only to be attacked by a suspected mugger. She shifts under pressure and scares the crud out of her attacker but he doesn't flee until another man walks into the bathroom. This man is Max Stuart and he helps her shift back to human because she doesn't know how. Once she's back, she's also naked.

Max takes her under his wing. He takes her to the Savannah hotel, which he explains to her is owned by her father and Max is the president of. She's overwhelmed by the luxury of Max and the hotel. They talk a lot that night about her father, her father's family, wealth etc.

The big issues to come up in this story is that Kitty's father is dying of cancer and his ex-wife, daughter, and son are upset about him bringing his bastard child into the picture now when his inheritance is up for grabs. The shit hits the fan with this family. And that Max is the one to take the reins after his passing.

Kitty is a lioness in the story which is cool and they refer to themselves as Leos. I liked that.

Very good book!

My Immortal Protector by Jen Holling

This was a very cool book to read! It's set in Scotland, in primative times ie horses, carriages, castles.
The book follows the story of Deidra MacKay, the daughter of healing witches, who's power is to communicate with the animals. She doesn't use her power to talk to the animals because when she was about 8 years old she watched a "pastor" torture her father, got upset, and told the animals to attack the man. The paster has since put Deidra at the top of his list to burn her at the stake for being a devil possessed witch.

Well, that pastor is back in town and looking for her. She decides it's the best time to leave now and pursue the legend of a "vampire", they use a nifty word I can't remember, that's living a few days walk away that can take her witch powers away. On her way she stops at Stephen Ross's castle. He's a crippled man from a bullet to the spine. He lives in perpetual pain and is lucky to be able to walk around. He welcomes her company and is intregued by her mission to find this person who can heal others. He decides that he wants to go so he can be healed himself. Stephen may be crippled but he's still a very handsome man. Deidra is attracted to him and he's attracted to her as well.

They embarq on their mission and it's full of all kinds of obstacles. Stephen does his best to be as much of a man as possible but it never fails that Deidra ends up saving him in some way. I guess they both went back and forth with the savings though. They make a very good couple.

Do they make it to the vampire and get cured? You'll have to read to find out!

The Host: Shadows by M K Mancos

I decided to read this book because I've been reading the short stories from The Mammoth Book of Vampire Romance (Mammoth Books) and this author wrote a story that I really enjoyed.

The Host: Shadows stars a woman, Angelia Lightheart, who is walking home one night from her lame boyfriends house, is attacked in an alley and nearly raped when she's saved by a man who crushes her assailant's neck in front of her. She's freaked out by this but still can't ignore that he's all man with glowing amber eyes.

Her savior was Tristain St. Blaise who is the host of a symbiote that makes him crave blood. Basically he's a vampire but not really. He's able to walk in the day time and eat and drink. But he has these urges to drink blood. His profession is as a hired assassin. That's why he runs into Angelia, he was down the street ridding the world of a sick priest and hears her distress.

They end up bumping into each other within the next couple of days. She's about to being a new job at Achilles International, which is owned and operated by Tristain's nemisis Achilles, who is his creator. And who also happens to be his next assignment.

Lots of plot ensues, including Tristain finding out that his son didn't die 200 years ago like he was told but that he was being raised by Achilles with the impression that Tristain had abandoned him 200 years ago.

The relationship that grows between Tristain and Angelia is very strong and very cute. He holds back so much with his feelings that it's almost too much to take when he finally opens up.

There is much action in this book. The character development and the rivalary going down make the story very interesting.

9/10!

Happy Halloween!

So, I missed trick-or-treat night with Madison because I was attending class. But she had a great time with Daddy. He took her to Great Gma's and she was confused. She thought he was bringing one of our dogs over. This is all she saw when they walked in!

Too funny!

She had a blast! She even got her picture taken and published in the local newspaper!
