One woman, two men, The choice of a lifetime and the chance for a perfect future. When Amanda McCormick heads west as to create a home of her own and begin a "perfect" marriage with a man she's never met, gambler Spencer Teague intercepts her. Pretending to be her fiance, he tricks her into surrendering her virginity. Amanda hides the misguided affair and forges a relationship with her young husband, Travis. But her secret haunts her when she learns she's pregnant. Meanwhile, Spencer is haunted by visions of a little girl who demands he find and help Amanda. Their lives entwine as the three come together in an unexpected relationship that touches and tortures them all. Amanda questions whether perfection is attainable and if it's possible to love two very different kinds of men. Warnings: Explicit sex.

LOL. Explicit Sex. Sounds like my kind of book. If I get to it I'll be sure to give details on how "explicit" is really is. If you get to it before me, drop by and let me know what you thought!

Unleash the Night (Dark-Hunter, Book 9) by Sherrilyn Kenyon

So, now, this is probably my favorite of this series so far. Remember I started with book 7, not book 1.

I LOVE shapeshifter books and this one was amazing.

Marguerite is the daughter of a state senator who is very selfish and expectant of Maggie's success. He bought her a house and is paying for her schooling. She's also Nick's, the new Dark-Hunter, good friend from a study group. The the members of said study group decide to honor the memory of Nick by going to Sanctuary, the bar that Nick talked to Maggie about, to drink to Nick. One guy is a major ass to a very reserved busboy with dreads and a pet monkey. The ass ends up throwing his beverage in the busboy's face because he notices that the busboy is staring at Maggie. Maggie notices him too. She feels him staring at her. She is intreiged and figures out that his name is Wren because Nick used to talk about him to her. Once the beverage makes contact with Wren's eyes he flips out and proceeds to attack the jerk that threw it. The bar bouncers are on Wren instantly. Maggie is so upset that she yells at her friend and tells the rest of them to leave without her. She wants to make sure Wren is okay. He's fine and he's very aware of Maggie. They introduce themselves to each other and say goodbye.

On the way home Maggie gets assaulted, but Wren pops out of no where to save her. He ends up shot, but he ignores it and sees her home. And that's the beginning of their amazing relationship. Wren ends up being a hybrid shapeshifter tigard, a mix of white tiger and snow leopard. He has a very shaky past that Maggie helps him through.

A great book. The only thing that was different than the other Dark-Hunter books was that there weren't any Dark-Hunters in this book, only the shapeshifters. That was kind of disappointing.

Sins of the Night (Dark-Hunter, Book 8) by Sherrilyn Kenyon

This is book 8 of the Dark-Hunter series. I started with book 7 but I'm not lost at all!

This story centers around a female Dark Hunter named Danger. Yes, that's right. The male lead in this story isn't a Dark Hunter but Acheron's Alexion, which is basically his vice principle. He lays out the law to Dark Hunters who run astray from the good side. He's only given a physical body to enter the human realm once every two centuries or so.

Acheron sends him in to take care of the current uprising lead by Stryker, who is an evil god who wants to reap revenge for his son, Urian's death. That's the only thing that I was confused about during this book. Urian was a Dark Hunter in the previous book who's body was taken control of by a daemon. I didn't think he died in that book. But oh well.

Alexion meets Danger when she comes home from patroling. He makes himself at home. She goes about her evening like she usally does, with a bowl of popcorn and a movie in her media room. He follows her around because he has a feeling that someone is watching them. When he settles down in the media room with her they have a brief talk about the awesomeness of Brad Pitt's ass in the movie Troy. At this point Alexion reveals how sexually tense he is considering her only gets to touch a female body once every two hundered years or so. Danger of course finds him extremely sexy.

They hit it off very well. They become a team to track down the Dark Hunters that Stryker is trying to convert. All the while Archeron is fighting with himself to not interfer while Alexion is out taking care of the situation.

I can't devulge the ending events. But leave it to say that Alexion and Danger are a perfect couple.

I'm thinking of going back and reading the books from the beginning of the series. BUT! The first book isn't available for the Kindle. And book 3, 5, and 6  aren't available either! But book 2 and 4 are....now that doesn't make any sense to me! Maybe I'll keep going forward instead.

Seize the Night (Dark-Hunter, Book 7) by Sherrilyn Kenyon

Well, I got this book, Kindle Edition, for free!

I started reading it at first without knowing it was apart of a series. But guess what? I wasn't lost what so ever.

This book was amazing.

It stars human vampire hunter Tabitha Deveraux and Demon Hunter Valerius Magnus.
How do they meet? She stabs him thinking that he was a daimon when he was actually there to help her. She takes the responsibility to take him home and care for him, with the help a male friend, Nick, to carry him.

Valerius is royalty to the T. When he wakes up in Tabby's house he's mortified by her decor. She has a child's car track rug in her bedroom! He doesn't believe her when she tells him that she knows Acheron, the Demon Hunter leader. And Tabby's room mate, a crossdresser, is just the tip of the iceberg for the strange things Valerius learns about Tabby.

They both have this immediate attraction to each other. But Tabitha's twin sister is married to Valerius's mortal enemy. Not really, the guy hates Valerius because of Val's family history, nothing that Val did personally.

There's a big battle between the good guys and the bad guys in this book. The action is superb and the emotion is heavy.

The story line is very well done. The characters are loveable and hateable.

I've already started and finished the next book too!

Any Given Doomsday (The Phoenix Chronicles) by Lori Handeland

I received this ARC (advance reading copy) in the mail from the publisher. I guess I signed up to receive it, I'm not sure.

The book was pretty good. It was slow at first, with the setting be a very small, unimpressive town. The main character Elizabeth Phoenix is a psychic. She is also an orphan who lived with Aunt Ruthie. The beginning starts with Elizabeth getting a "calling" to see Ruthie ASAP. She arrives at her house to find Ruthie on the floor of the kitchen bleeding, and dying. Ruthie touches her and Elizabeth drifts into darkness.

She wakes up in the hospital four days later, with the local detectives sitting in her room waiting to question her on the murder. They want to know if she knows where Jimmy is. Jimmy just so happens to be Elizabeth's ex that she's still in love with. The detectives leave with no information.

Jimmy wakes out of the bathroom shortly after they leave. Elizabeth questions Jimmy's involvement. He disappears after awhile.

The whole plot of this story is very complex. What happens next is a series of events that lead to Elizabeth and Jimmy traveling to a skinwalker named Sawyer. They battle evil forces to prove Jimmy's innocence in Ruthie's death.

Overall, I think it was a very good book. I think the ending was very well wrapped up and I don't have a pulling urge to read the next book in the series.

This book's release date is November 4, 2008.

Kids and Scissors

So, today was a first. Madison had her first "real" hair cut today. Why?
I've always trimmed it. Until a couple of months ago when she got her hands on a pair of scissors and took a chunk out of it. It wasn't too much to be noticed but it still made me upset.

Well this morning I woke up to a different situation. She had taken the scissors to her entire head. We don't normally have any issues with her waking up before us and watching some cartoons for a while. Until today.

Here's a picture of Madi a few weeks ago:

And here's what she now looks like after her first hair cut:

My husband says it fits her personality better. I think it's cute but I'm still in mourning of the lost hair.
Patrick says she looks pixie like and she's a real firecracker so he thinks it suits her well.

Edit: She looks like Julie Andrews in The Sound of Music.

At least it'll be easier to take care of now. o.O

Noah (The Nightwalkers, Book 5) by Jacquelyn Frank

Book 5 of the Nightwalkers series by Jacquelyn Frank.

This was a very good book.

The King of the Demons seeks out Corrine to help him find his mate that he has been dreaming about for the past six months. It's days away from the moon holiday Sanhaim (spelling?) which Noah will not be able to handle if he doesn't find his mate. Corrine helps him reach her through her powers. He finds out her name, Kestra. She's a hard ass who likes to be in control even in their touchy feely dreams, which just so happen to not really be dreams at all.

Noah has another session with Corrine and he's babysitting Jacob and Bella's daughter (can't remember her name!) so he brings her along. Noah hasn't been dreaming of Kestra since the previous session. Corrine can't seeem to find her either. The baby walks into the room and all of a sudden Noah is in two places at once. Half of the room is now in the past where Noah can see Kestra talking to a man, an attack proceeds and then Kestra is shot in the head. Noah collapses. The room is covered in soot and debris from the action.

Noah heads home. He's breaking up inside knowing that his mate is dead. He makes the only decision he's left with. He takes Bella & Jacob's baby hostage to Corrine's, where he drains Kane's, Corrine's mate, energy, makes Corrine go down stairs and repeat the previous session with the hope that he can jump planes of existance and assist Kestra from her assailant. Of course Bella and Jacob are hot on his trail. Noah is able to jump the plans, assist Kestra, and bring her back to his castle.

Kestra isn't about to give up her freewill to some hunky looking man. The rest of the story is all about Kestra pushing Noah away because she's afraid of the feelings she's feeling. I.E. she doesn't want to feel turned on, she uses sex as a tool not for enjoyment, and she does enjoy it.  :)

Noah's character really takes a leap for me. In the previous books I looked up to him as the "king" but he's calling Kestra "baby" in this book and that just seemed sooooo out of character for him. It really bothered me. Everytime I read it coming from his mouth I kind of cringed. Weird, but it happened. He did have a native Demon endearment he called her too but "baby" was used more often than not.

Kestra's character was perfect for Noah. I was pleased by this.

It doesn't look like there's going to be another Nightwalker book. The next book due out by Jackie Frank is Ecstasy: The Shadowdwellers, due January 6, 2009. The shadowdwellers were a breed of nightwalkers in this series. I'm confused by this. There is no synopsis about this book either.

Either way, this book rocked.

True Blood Review

HBO started airing the new series called True Blood, which is based on the amazing Sookie Stackhouse series by Charlaine Harris.

Episode one ended much too quickly! I'm quite upset about just how little can be conveyed in a one hour episode. Other than that I thought the episode went well. Of course it's HBO so they lingered on the sex scenes a little. The Maudette murder was the main topic of the episode, besides the fact that vampire newcomer, Bill Compton, has rolled into to town. Sookie saves him from being bleed dry by vampire blood theifts.

Episode two left right off where episode one did. Sookie was being beaten to death by the vampire blood theifts, the Ratborns or something like that, when Bill comes to her rescue. But he doesn't get there quite in time to save Sookie from a near deadly encounter. He's forced to give her some of his blood to help her heal. They hit it off a little with her asking him if he'd come meet her grandmother. That was interesting. Of course Sookie's brother, Jason, isn't too fond of a vampire interested in his sister. But Sookie handles herself just fine. The episode ends with Sookie arriving at Bill's home to give him a list of electricions when the door is answered by three other vampires, one of which is responsible for Maudette's death.

They do an excellent job of closing the episodes on a cliffhanger ensuring that the viewers come back next week to find out what happens. I'm really getting into the show now. As I stated it seemed to take at least these two episodes to get "into" and understand what the show is going to be about. Since I've read all the books I know what's going to happen and I'm exicted to see it all play out. The actors are doing great. Tara is probably my favorite character. I don't remember her being so feisty in the book but it's refreshing!

Looking forward to the next episode this Sunday.

Dark Desires After Dusk (The Immortals After Dark, Book 5) by Kresley Cole

09/17/08 - I TOTALLY forgot to post the review to this book! I found this BRIEF review I left on Shelfari....
Apparently I started it one day and finished it and then forgot all about it!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Started this yesterday and finished it yesterday!
LOVE KRESLEY COLE!!!!

OMG, this was an amazing book! It was non stop action. I love me some action!

Summary per Amazon.com:

A seductive beauty he can
never have, yet can't resist...

Cadeon
Woede will stop at nothing to atone for the one wrong that will haunt
him forever. But once he secures the key to his redemption, the
halfling Holly Ashwin, Cade finds that the woman he thought he could
use for his own ends and then forget haunts him as much as his past.

A tormented warrior she should fear, but can't deny...

Raised
as a human, Holly never knew that some frightening legends are real
until she encounters a brutal demon who inexplicably guards her like a
treasure. Thrust into a sensual new world of myth and power, with him
as her protector, she begins to crave the demon's wicked touch.

Surrender to dark desires...
Yet
just when he earns Holly's trust, will Cade be forced to betray the
only woman who can sate his wildest needs -- and claim his heart?
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Again,
nothing but action. Holly is an honest women most women can relate to.
Cadeon is a egotistical male demon too handsome to hate. He truly does
a 180 in personality all for the better.

15/10!

a 180 in personality all for the better.

Damien (The Nightwalkers, Book 4) by Jacquelyn Frank

Book number four of Jacquelyn Frank's Nightwalkers series.

This one is focused on Damien the vampire Prince and Syreena the Lycanthrope Princess. They meet up at the newly found Nightwalker library. Immediately Damien insults or makes some comment towards Syreena that she decides she needs a moment outside of the library to refocus. She is attacked by the rogue demon Ruth. Ruth is still out to get revenge for her daughers death.

Damien immediately regrets the comment he has made and decides to follow Syreena out of the library leaving his second in command, Jasmine, behind without word of where he was headed. Once Damien figures out that Syreena was attacked and taken he starts tracking her to where she's being held captive by the demon Ruth. Syreena has been nearly killed by Ruth, with large pieces of her hair missing, which to a lycantrope is the equivilant of a missing limb is deadly.

Damien swoops, or rather crashes, in to save Syreena from anymore harm. He takes her closer to the mystrail lands where he lays Syreena down. He makes the ultimate decision to feed from Syreena because she is just bleeding too much and his second bite contains a substance that coagulates, or stops, blood lose. It works but as he suspects her blood acts like a posion to him. He ends up unconscious. They are found by the mystrail Windsong.

They are cared for by Windsong. And they bond after a few heartfelt conversations. She kisses him to say thank you because that's what Princesses do in the fairy tales....awww! Just too sweet! That's just the beginning of their very sweet and romantic relationship. They have a lot to over come but they do it with such finesse and easy it left me envious!

A perfect couple, completely.

I was sooo thrilled with this addition to this series that I immediately started the next book of the series. I was holding off on this one until I knew I could read the next one, which is the story of Noah, the demon King. (Which is so far just as amazing!!!)

LOVED IT!!!

10/10!!!

The Nymph King (Atlantis, Book 3) by Gena Showalter

Another amazing Gena book!!!!
She is just an amazing writer. She makes them interesting, spicy, romantic, spicy, and just too sweet! And did I mention spicy?

This book was anything but lacking spicyness! How could it not with the title: The Nymph King!

So, Valerian is the Nymph King. In the previous Atlantis book, Jewel of Atlantis, you get a glimpse that one of the dragon palaces has been taken over by nymphs. Valerian wants to have somewhere to call home so he takes the palace for himself and his men. His women will be coming soon....or so he thought. With no women to keep the nymphs strong and able he resorts to traveling through the portal to the forbidden surface!

Shaye is attending her mother's, what 6th?, wedding when all of a sudden amazingly hot guys start walking out of the ocean. Her mom promptly starts drooling asking them to touch her and Shaye is just like GTFO! Valerian is instantaneously attracted to Shaye.

The men walk away back to Atlantis with a dozen or so women to be picked gym class style, with a bit more scrutiny than high school though, by the men needing female companionship. Valerian does his hardest to make Shaye look totally undesireable feeding her the best way to ward off each approaching man. Why? Because he knows she is his life mate.

Of course Shaye doesn't want anything to do with this man who awakens senses she doesn't want to deal with. Valerian is 100% male and does his damnest to pursue Shaye's affections. There's a small battle between the dragons who come to take their palace back and there's a mini-subplot between two other nymphs and a human female.

Overall? LOVED IT!!! It was a pure romantic with lots of romance.

Broken (Women of the Otherworld, Book 6) by Kelley Armstrong

Leigh Ann Baird told me to read this while I was on vacation via a comment on my blog. So I did!

This is book number 6 of Kelley's Women of the Otherworld series. I skipped from book 2 to book 6. Why? Cause book 3 was just blah. The witches did not interest me AT ALL! I'm glad Leigh Ann suggested reading this one though. It was good.

Of course it centered around Elena, her lover boy Clay, and the Alpha Jeremy. This is one strange story that they've walked into. Somehow they obtained a letter that was cursed, or something, with a portal to the past. They believe they just unleashed Jack the Ripper to the present. People start disappearing and dead people start walking and attacking Elena.

OH! And Elena's pregnant! She's running around with the equivalent of being 8 months pregnant and kicking ass with out so much of having to stop to go pee! The story line in this book is complex and amazing.

However, with that said, this series just really is lacking in spice for me anymore. It's more on the mystery side of the genre than romantic or paranormal.

Jewel of Atlantis (Atlantis, Book 2) by Gena Showalter

Another book that I put off reading because I knew it would be great! And it was!!!
I love Gena Showalter!

This story revolves around a familiar male lead. He's the brother of the lead female from The Stone Prince, Katie James. His name is Grayson James aka Gray. He's been sent to Atlantis to find the Jewel of Dunamis which the humans automatically assumed was an actual gemstone. Gray is found to be stuck in the jungle of Atlantis fighting a demon for his life. All of a sudden he hears the voice of a women who is giving him helpful hints of what to do.

She bargins with him that she'll help him find the Jewel if he saves her and helps her find information about her father. What he doesn't know is that SHE is the Jewel of Dunamis.

They go on an amazing little trek through Atlantis overcoming all sorts of obstacles. All the while building an amazing relationship. Pure Gena Showalter signature novel.

This truely was an amazing book!

Kitty Goes to Washington (Kitty Norville Series, Book 2)

This is the second book of the Kitty Norville series.
I saw the title of this book and immediately assumed Washington state as the location for this book. NOPE! It was Washington, D.C. It really threw me off, big time, and I'm not sure why.

Anyhow, the story was about the same as the first book. Kitty had decided to take her radioshow on the road. Hopping from one city to the next, stopping at one radio station one week and a different the next week. Since she was outted as a werewolf she didn't want to keep a home and draw too much attention to herself.

Well it didn't pay off. The government calls her in to testify about the supernatural community regarding the research department that needs it's funding to continue to roll in. The board holds off calling her to the stand for the entire week, which happens to be the day of the full moon, thus resulting in a ticking time bomb should Kitty lose her temper. She doesn't but she does find herself in a bit of trouble before the nights end.

She also finds a great place to hang with other shifters. One person takes a great interest in Kitty and he makes her "purr".

Kitty overcomes quite a few obstacles in this installment of the series. She makes a few friends and a few enemies. All-in-all she comes out just fine and can call on Washington, D.C. to be her home anytime.

9/10!

Pleasure Unbound (Demonica, Book 1) by Larissa Ione

I can't remember why I chose to read this book. However, I'm so glad I did though!

This book was nearly as good as a J.R. Ward Blackdagger book! It was packed with action.

Tayla is a demon hunter. Basically, she kills anything that's not human. Why? Because one raped and murdered her mother right in front of her. One night she gets ambushed and rescued by..... demons! She gets taken to a demon hospital run by sucubi demons. Lots of lusting ensues, a few explosions, lots of fighting, and of course sex.

The male lead character is Eidolon, who I called "E" because, really, how do you say that name? Eye-doe-lon? Eye-doo-lon? Any how, he's a kick ass doctor who's on the verge of complete sexual corruption if he doesn't find his soul mate soon. He has two other brothers, one who is more of a liability than anything.

I'm sure the next book will be the story of one of the other brothers. YUP! The next book covers Shade's story: Desire Unchained (Demonica, Book 2) due out February 24, 2009.

10/10!!!
